Sienna Miller and Jude Law will always have New York! This week, the on-again pair of Broadway actors lunched in the backroom at Upper East Side haunt Swifty’s before jetting off to Mustique. Meanwhile, in the holiday spirit, Jessica and Ashlee Simpson ate steak with their grandparents at Angelo & Maxie’s. Downtown, Susan Sarandon sneaked around with her new beau, drinking liquor at Mermaid Oyster Bar, while Nouriel Roubini hung out with the Donald at RdV. Grub Street is heading out now in order to spot some more celebrities. We’ll be back on Monday. Happy New Year! Enjoy the last of this year’s celebrity dining tales, below.

Last-Minute Lush Run

In a perfect world, you’d be prepared to celebrate tonight. But let’s be honest: You’re as lazy as we are. For last-minute revelry needs, we’d suggest skipping Trader Joe’s Wine Shop, which will be as crowded as a cattle car with carousers buying Two-Buck Chuck. Instead, we propose these inexpensive alternatives for getting pie-eyed:

Old Overholt: Tonight is about quantity over quality. Still, why not savor both? This peppery rye whiskey is equally gentle on the tongue and the pocketbook. ($17.99, Warehouse Wines & Spirits, 735 Broadway, nr. Astor Pl.; 212-982-7770)

Sixpoint Redd: Whole Foods’ proprietary red ale is malty with a gentle hop kick and, at just 5 percent ABV, ideal for sipping into the wee hours. ($7.99 a 64-ounce growler, Whole Foods Market Bowery)

Gruet Brut: Though it’s not cheap enough to spray willy-nilly, this riotously carbonated sparkler from New Mexico blossoms with citrus and apple aromas. ($11.99, Union Square Wine & Spirits)

Colli Vicentin Cabernet Sauvignon: Instead of Yellowtail, try this easy-drinking Italian red that is bursting with black-currant flavors. ($3.99, Astor Wines & Spirits)

Young Food Network Chefs.

Except for Rachael Ray’s naughty FHM shoot in 2003, TV chefs seem frozen in grinning middle age. That was before Food Network Humor compiled a delightful photo spread exposing the bunch during their un-made-up youth. As a boy, Guy Fieri recalled Kurt Russell’s eldest in Overboard; a certain Brit bombshell got herself some new teeth; and did Batali swallow an Archie comic? Enjoy.

Back in November 2008, Jean-Georges Vongerichten told New York that he would open a restaurant in the former Lucy space in ABC Carpet & Home. As of late February, look out for ABC Kitchen, a market-driven restaurant where everything from the bathroom soaps to the cleaning products will be organic. Even the wine and spirits will be organic or artisanal. “Of course, if you want Belvedere, we will have it,” says Ryan Armstrong, the restaurant’s general manager. The menu is not pegged to any particular cuisine. “The food will all be from this area, but we don’t want to be limited in style by locale,” says Armstrong. “And it will be less austere than a typical Jean-Georges restaurant.”

The décor, conceived by local Brooklyn furniture designer Eric Slayton, will be a modern take on farm-to-table with rustic furnishings and sustainable building materials like steel and concrete. “There was a tremendous amount of research that went into every detail because of our focus on a sustainable philosophy,” Slayton explains.

Clear Your Sinuses With Hot-Oil Noodles

Recently, a gnarly cold bug has wreaked havoc on New Yorkers, making sinuses as congested as the FDR at rush hour. Thankfully, Grub Street has discovered sinus salvation. A couple weeks ago, proprietor Liang Pi brought a branch of his Flushing-based Xi’an Famous Foods to Manhattan’s Chinatown, opening in a cubbyhole beneath the Manhattan Bridge. Though small in space (there’s a counter wide enough for two diners), Xi’an features the same bold, vibrant flavors that made it a must for outer-borough adventurers: tangy, spicy cold noodles, fragrant cumin-lamb sandwiches, and our favorite fiery medicine, the hot-oil noodles.

Don’t let the bland name dissuade you. A cook rolls and stretches dough into fat, asymmetrical noodles, then they’re boiled al dente. They’re plopped into a Styrofoam container, liberally slicked with incendiary chili oil, and topped with bean sprouts and bok choy. One bite, and your tongue and lips will hum. Two bites, and your sinuses will open like a burst dam. Naturally, extra napkins are provided upon request.

Xi’an Famous Foods, 88 East Broadway No. 106, nr. Forsyth St.; No phone.
