East Village: Five Tacos opened its doors officially last night on St. Marks Place. Rumor has it that Crif Dogs employees all sneaked over and enjoyed tacos last night. [EV Grieve]
Everywhere: Today is the start of the second annual Eat for Kids, a two-week partnership with top chefs in NYC and Tom Colicchio that has one goal: improving the city’s public school lunch program. Participating restaurants include Craft, Telepan, Babbo, Perilla, and Dell’Anima. [Grub Street]
Forest Hills: Haveli restaurant (no relation to the Manhattan eatery by the same name) is now open at 116–33 Queens Boulevard, serving a pan-Indian menu from chef Tuhin Dutta (Seasons) that includes vegetarian dishes, tandoori-grilled meats, and seafood, among other options. See the full lineup here. [Grub Street]
Gramercy: On Mondays from 6 to 8 p.m., Kibo will provide complimentary sake tastings at their bar, serving Akitabare suirakuten, Dewazakura Nama Genshu, and Masumi Okuden. [Eater NY]
Lower East Side: Top Hops Beer Shop tapped its kegs this past weekend and is open for business at 94 Orchard Street. The establishment offers a wide selection of beers, including rare brews from around the world to good old-fashioned Bud Light. [Bowery Boogie]
Lower East Side: Subway — yes, that Subway — plans to open another LES shop at 153 Essex Street. You know, just in case you were short on places to find a foot-long sandwich.

He might drool.
Blame Ambien or exhaustion, but Anthony Bourdain has drifted off to sleepy-land. Eric Ripert posted this pic of his BFF, taken after a couple of tequila shots, on the plane home from the Cayman Islands. One can only imagine what he’s dreaming about. [Eric Ripert/Twitter]

Restaurateur Spencer Rothschild made a last-minute decision to change the name of his Barrio redo from Barrio Plates to Mix. Not only does the menu “mix different flavors and cuisines,” as Rothschild explained, the restaurant is intended as a place where you can “pop in for a light bite, or bring a group of six and taste half the menu.” Barrio’s bright murals are gone, replaced by a warm orange-and-ochre color scheme. And the menu from chef Martell Fonville (A Voce, al di là) is pretty much what we told you about the other day: contemporary American with a few forays into Latin or Asian territory. Check it all out in our slideshow.

Just try not to drool.
Brooklyn-based bakery Ovenly has had a fiendish following of sugar hounds since it launched in 2010, and now we learn it’s slated to go brick and mortar this spring. Ovenly headquarters at 31 Greenpoint Avenue will serve as test kitchen, retail store, and event space, selling the goods — like bacon caramel corn, currant-rosemary scones, and mustard-spice cookies — that had previously only been available in select shops and grocery stores, as well as grab-and-go breakfast and lunch. The space is slated for March.
