Ten Bells, a nautical term, happens to be the name of the pub in London where Jack the Ripper met his victims. It’s a morbid moniker for an all-natural, organic wine bar, but that’s exactly what Yassine Bencaleb, owner of
Le Pere Pinard, and Fabrice Vautrin, his partner there and also an owner of
Les Enfants Terribles, have named their new Chinatown venture, which opened last Tuesday.
In addition to wines procured by partner Philippe Essonne (also a GM at Pere Pinard) from small producers in Europe, Oregon, and Morocco ($14 by the glass, $50 by the bottle), the 30-seat spot will serve cheese from Essex Market, cold cuts such as wild-boar sausage and venison carpaccio, and small dishes such as duck-breast tartar with hazelnuts. The bar is open from 5 p.m. till midnight on weekdays and till 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
