It’s clear the space at 181 Grand Street, off of Mulberry Street, is cursed — Dom’s made a go at it very briefly before closing because of “family problems” (the landlord eventually seized the place), and then Dolce Vita was there for not even a year before the landlord stepped in again. Still, it’ll be revived next month with the opening of Acquedolci, a self-described “mercato Siciliano.” A sign promises Sicilian and Italian groceries, breads, deli meats, prepared salads, and coffee. All well and good, but the space is pretty small — will it be able to compete with Di Palo’s gastronomia, also opening next month?
